In 2017, a category 4 hurricane called Irma hit my hometown of Orlando, Florida with a strength that had been taken in by Katrina in 2005. At the time, my class was studying Deconstructivism in design. The idea behind this project was to create an informative piece that follows the basic rules of design, and then destroys it - omitting any and all design rules. There was however, an extra step: we had to showcase an emotion through it.
IDEATION
The informative design focuses on information needed to survive a hurricane. That same information is taken and strewn about deconstruction design.
The design of the deconstruction is reminiscent of a hurricane in itself - destructive, chaotic, and mind-boggling. I was 1,100 miles from home unable to do anything for my family.
